VINARIUM International Wine Contest 2024 is organized under the patronage  of OIV (the International Organization of Vine and Wine) and VINOFED (the World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits competitions).

Starting with 2020, FIJEV (the International Federation of Wine and Spirit Journalist and Writers) has become a Partner.

VINARIUM 2024 was held in Ploiești, Romania.

VINARIUM International Wine Contest, the XXIst EDITION (May 23-26, 2024) was organized with the support of Ploiești City Hall and is held under the auspices of Ploiești- Capitala Tineretului din România  #LetsPLAY (the Youth Capital of Romania), Fundația Județeană pentru Tineret Prahova (the Prahova County Youth Foundation), EUROSPIRIT Association.

  • There were 1502 samples registered from 26 countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Cyprus, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Republic of North Macedonia, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Republic of Türkiye, Ukraine.
  • 239 producers / importers/ traders/ producers’ representatives have registered their samples
  • Still wines (1381 samples), sparkling wines (110 samples), and spirituous beverages of vitivinicultural origin (11 samples) were registered in the competition
  • 39,3% of the total registered samples originate from outside Romania – the organizing country
  • The total number of judges was 46, originating from 18 countries: Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, France, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Republic of Moldova, The Netherlands, Portugal, Republic of Türkiye, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, UK.
  • The judging was carried out by 8 commissions of 5 judges/ commission. Each commission was led by a head of panel. https://www.iwcb.ro/en/jury-2024/
  • The official observers present in Ploiești were:
    ○ Mrs. Neslihan IVIT, Republic of Türkiye, Observer OIV and VINOFED, Head of Unit Oenology and Methods of Analysis at the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV)
    ○ Mrs. Janna RIJPMA-MEPPELINK, The Netherlands, Observer FIJEV, member of the FIJEV Board of Directors
  • The consensual average of each sample was calculated as an arithmetic average of the scores given by all jurors, after eliminating the extreme scores (i.e. the lowest and the highest scores were eliminated).
  • There were awarded:
    ○ 25 Great Gold Medals (scores between 93-100) – 5.5% from the total no of medals
    ○ 357 Gold Medals (scores between 89-92.9) – 78.5% from the total no of medals
    ○ 73 Silver Medals (scores between 85-88.9)- 16% from the total no of medals
  • Even though the minimum score for the Silver Medal, according to the OIV Regulations, is of 85 points, due to the restriction according to which only 30% of the total number of samples can receive an award, the last score for the Silver Medal was 88,33.
  • The 25 Great Gold Medals were won by wineries from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Italy, North Macedonia, Portugal, Moldova, and Romania. We invite you to view them here.
  • Since 2023, VINARIUM – a VINOFED competition – has been globally communicating its medal-winning wines through the international reference platform WINE-SEARCHER.com:
    ○ 240 million – searches conducted by consumers each year
    ○ 5.2 million – active users per month
